General Description:
1. There will be 4 fiddler divisions. The
competition is on Saturday, February 9, 2008, with registration starting at
11:00 AM. The contest starts at noon, 12:00 PM. The SNOW DATE is Saturday,
February 16 at the same times.
2. Judges will announce the prize-winning competitors in each division during the Championship Concert at 4:00 p.m. Contestants will need to be present to perform at the concert to be eligible to receive awards and cash prizes.
3. Same-day registration starts at 11:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM. Registrations before the day of the contest will be accepted. To register early, fill out the fiddle contest entry form and mail. Please make checks payable to SAINT PETER FIDDLE ASSOCIATION. Please be prepared to provide proof of age on the day of the contest! (birth certificate, picture ID with birth date, drivers license, or passport).
4. Contestants may play without accompaniment. Each contestant may provide his/her own guitar accompaniment. A piano is available. There can be no more than one accompanist. The accompanist may not play the melody. The accompaniment can NOT be on a playback machine (tape or CD).
5. Contestant must play in traditional style and format. Contestants must first play the following:

Pee-Wee: old-time tune --- --- 2:00 minutes
Jr.-Jr.: hoedown waltz 3:00 minutes
Junior hoedown waltz tune of choice (not hoedown or waltz) 4:00 minutes
Open hoedown waltz tune of choice (not hoedown or waltz) 4:00 minutes
A signal will be given one minute before time limit. Any time over the limit will result in a loss of points.
6. No trick or fancy fiddling is allowed. ("Orange Blossom Special" is not permitted as a contest tune.) No cross tuning is allowed during the contest.
7. No sheet music is allowed during the contest. (Accompanists may use music.)
8. Each contestant must be ready to play when called. Any preparations such as tuning must be done prior to playing the contest.
9. Mishaps can occur, and the contestant may stop and resume in the next available time slot, or can begin his/her round at the next available time slot.
10. Any inappropriate behavior on the part of the contestant or anyone associated with the contestant is grounds for forfeiture and the contestant, accompanist, or anyone else will be excused and will not be entitled to any prize money or refunds of fees.
11. No contact microphones or electric instruments are allowed. The only amplification will be through the available P.A. system.
12. Any contestant winning a prize must appear on stage to accept the award or the award will be forfeited.
13. Appeals must be in writing to the SAINT PETER FIDDLE ASSOCIATION within one hour of the disputed occurrence and signed by no less than three additional contestants. The Contest Committee will rule an all disputes within 24 hours.
14. All decisions of the Contest Committee are final.
